  • Camera Found north of VA56

    A hiker by the name of "Rounder" contacted ATC to notify us that he found a camera phone on the A.T. about 1/2 to 1 mile north of VA 56. It was on the right side of the Trail going north, sealed in a plastic bag. He was on a day-hike, and on his return trip, placed it higher in the tree to be more visible.

    His phone number is 803-708-3272 if anyone has questions.

    A newsletter is old fashioned in the modern world of instant communication loops, Twitter, and Facebook. However, it remains a tried-and-true method of sharing stories, trail-cautions, up-coming meetings, and hiking/activity information. 

    Here are some content ideas. Pictures are always welcome! Have you heard of a new hike-related product, a new trail, or a planned trip? There is never "just a hike." Was there a walk in the woods that you particularly enjoyed and why? Humorous situation? A learning opportunity? ODATC trail maintainers outclass any club on the AT (in my humble opinion) for their work ethic, support, and can-do attitudes. This is a time to be recognized for the hard work you do!

    My name is Jeanette Kozlowski, and I am the social media manager at HikingBoots.com. It’s a pleasure to virtually meet you all! We recently put together a list of 35 reasons to hike the Appalachian Trail. This might be something fun to share with your site readers.

    Waterbars were mentioned at the PotLuck lunch on Sat, Jan 19, 2013 and I thought I would Google waterbar images and I found the following link will give the images found: 

    NOTE: when viewing the page of images above, you can use the keys CTRL +  to enlarge the images on the page or click CTRL + keys simultaneously several times to enlarge the images several times.
    Then rather than clicking to each omage to view it, you can use the right arrow key to page thru these enlarged images...(using the right arrow key to move thru the images works on IE fine, not so good when using Flock)

    Just thought I would share this since I am not always sure whether I am on the right page when it comes to the techniques concerning trail maintenance.

  • ACTIVITY COORDINATORS NEEDED

    We have a huge demand for activities and not enough leaders to meet the need on both weekdays and on the weekend.  Please give back to the club by becoming an event coordinator. Multiple activities on any day will provide opportinities for participation without overwhelming the activity coordinators. Contact the Activities Chair, Jenni Pendergrass, if you can help.
