What: Portions of Austin Mountain and Furnace Mountain trails (C3)
When: 28th May, 2026
Registration link: https://odatc.org/event-6677852
Hike Leader: Matt Powell
Hike Details:
This hike will comprise portions of the Austin Mountain and Furnace Mountain trails as accessed from Grottoes (off of Rt. 340). This is for anyone who wishes to improve their hiking skills, whether it be ascending more efficiently, descending with less stress on knees, crossing streams with confidence, or striding through scree/talus without worrying about turning an ankle. We'll visit terrain which will give us the opportunity to practice these skills, so be ready to head up and down some hills, cross a stream or two, and navigate some rocky stretches. The total distance will be in the 6 to 8 mile range and can be shortened or lengthened as desired. We'll have lunch at a rocky overlook before returning to our cars.
