Where: Fortune's Cove Preserve, Nelson County
This will be a moderately difficult hike in the Nature Conservancy’s Fortune’s Cove Preserve, which is located south of Charlottesville near Lovingston, VA. The Preserve’s 5.5-mile trail provides rugged and challenging mountain terrain with stunning vistas. The hike takes about 5 hours and includes a 1,500-to-1,700-foot climb. If we see or expect icy conditions, we will take the less steep 3.9-mile route described in the link. But be prepared with poles and/or micro spikes just in case.
To prevent invasive weeds, they ask that you check pant legs and shoes for seeds before hiking. Description of the area here: https://www.nature.org/en-us/get-involved/how-to-help/places-we-protect/fortunes-cove-preserve/
