Susan Chappell (804-481-2124 schap1012@yahoo.com) will lead a hike December 3 to the upper and lower falls of the Appomattox River. We will meet at Ferndale Park, west of Petersburg in Dinwiddie County.
This is a 3 mile out and back hike along the Appomattox River to the north and the canal to the south. Then, we will drive 9 minutes to the lower falls (University Blvd. trailhead) for a 1 mile out and back along the lower falls of the Appomattox River. There is parking in the trailhead parking lots. Restrooms are limited.
For directions enter Appomattox Riverside Park Ferndale for the starting point, and Appomattox River Trail Lower Falls (University Blvd trailhead) for the ending point. Both of these trails are in the Petersburg area, about 30 minutes and miles from downtown Richmond. Take 95S and 85S to the Route 1 North exit then follow GPS directions to Ferndale Park. There are many lunch options in Olde Town Petersburg close to where the lower falls trail is located.
