Powhatan State Park will be the destination for the "Wednesday hike" on November 5. The hike will be a 4 mile loop on the following trails: Big Woods, Turkey, River, Gold Dust, Coyote Run, Campground, Pine, and Big Woods. What will we see? Can't say for sure, but it seems likely there will be some fall color, some later fall flowers, and some birds, including winter arrivals such as Yellow-rumped Warblers, White-throated Sparrows, and Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers. Art Ritter is the hike leader. Contact him at o2behiking@yahoo.com if you have questions, but there is no need to register in advance. Dogs are allowed on leash.

Meeting time: 9:50. Meeting place: the horse parking area where the Big Woods Trail and the Turkey Trail join up. To get there, drive past the Launch Road on the left (across from the picnic shelter, playground, and nice bathrooms). Continue for about a half mile, and take the next left. From there, it is a short distance to the parking area. There are outhouse style toilets there. Note: each car needs either a park pass, a paid entry fee, or an REI receipt.
