What could be nicer than a hike on the Appalachian Trail as the leaves begin to turn? Join hike leader Anne-Marie McCartan for a 2-part hike near mm 99.5 of the Skyline Drive at Beagle Gap Meadow. Each section is about 2 miles roundtrip.
We'll gather at the Rockville Park & Ride at 8:00 am to arrange carpools. We will meet back up at the parking lot at Beagle Gap Meadow. The first leg is a fairly gentle climb to Little Calf Mountain and a stunning view.
Back at the parking lot, we'll use the facilities before heading across the road to climb (353 feet) to Bear Den Mountain. After taking a snack break, we'll head back to our cars. A stop-over at Blue Mountain Brewery on the way home might be of interest to some.
This is a hike for those possibly intimidated by most of the posted ODATC mountain hikes. If you haven't been on the AT for a while (or ever!), this is a good opportunity to do so. Arrangements can be made for anyone wishing to meet us at Beagle Gap.
More detailed instructions will be sent to those who RSVP to Anne-Marie at amccartan213@gmail.com. With questions, text 757-345-1395.
