This Wednesday hike will follow a four-mile loop in that old chestnut, Powhatan State Park. Meet at the parking area for the picnic shelter on the right hand side of the main road about a half mile from the entrance gate. You will need a fee for your car or a state park pass. Meeting time will be 9:50. There are nice bathrooms at the parking area.
We will hike the route counter-clockwise on the following trails: Cabin; Pine; Campground; Coyote Run; Gold Dust; Big Woods; and Cabin. About one third of this hike goes through open country, and the rest passes through forest. There is lots of nature to observe along the way, including some unique birdlife in the old fields. If the group wants to, we will make it a five mile hike by adding Turkey Trail. There will be a couple of hundred feet of mostly gradual elevation gain and loss.
Hike leader Art Ritter can be reached at o2behiking@yahoo.com if you have questions, but there is no need to register for this hike.
