Check it Out:
Susan Chappell (804-481-2124) will lead a hike at Five Forks Battlefield. Meet at 9:50am at the Visitors Center. We will hike approximately 4-5 miles on a circuit trail.
The Union victory here was the breaking point for Lee's army. No longer able to hold Petersburg and Richmond, the actions that occurred April 2, were the last convulsions of the Siege of Petersburg. Less than a week later, after some hard marching and bitter fighting, the Army of Northern Virginia surrendered at Appomattox Court House. Lunch and tasty Mennonite baked goods can be found at the Route 1 Country Store in Dinwiddie for those who wish to partake.
